Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before submitting an application - including the things most people don't think to ask until it's too late.
Every piece I paint gets my whole heart. That's not marketing language - it's just true, and it shapes everything about how I work.
I take a small number of commissions each year specifically because I refuse to rush. I've turned down work - and ended client relationships - because the pressure to deliver on someone else's arbitrary timeline produces work I'm not proud of. A painting that leaves my studio represents me permanently. I treat it accordingly.
How long will my commission take?
Honestly - it depends. The realistic range is 6 to 8 months from the time your project enters the active queue. That range exists because I work a demanding corporate job alongside this practice. I work on multiple pieces simultaneously to maintain the level of focus each one deserves and I refuse to rush. Your place in the timeline is determined by deposit order - pieces ahead of yours are completed first. I will always communicate with you rather than go silent. What I won't do is give you a hard deadline I can't stand behind.
What does being on the waitlist actually mean?
The waitlist and the active queue are two different things. When you sign your contract and submit your 50% deposit, you secure your placement on the waitlist. You move into the active queue when the commission ahead of yours is completed. This process exists because I take on a carefully managed number of projects - not because I've forgotten about you. Your contract outlines this distinction clearly. Please read it.
Can I check on my timeline?
Yes- within reason. I will proactively update you when your project moves into the active queue and when significant progress is made. Reaching out occasionally is completely fine and welcome. Repeated requests for your timeline updates, pressure to accelerate, or attempts to negotiate your place in the queue are not something I'm able to accommodate. Clients who cannot trust the process are not clients I'm able to work with - and that boundary exists to protect the quality of your painting as much as anyone else's.
What is the concept sketch process?
Before I touch your canvas, we go through a digital concept phase - the most collaborative part of the entire commission. I sketch your composition digitally, incorporating your car(s), your vision, and any specific details or background elements you want included. You review and we refine together. You approve the final concept before a single brushstroke is made on canvas. This phase is included in your commission price and covers up to three rounds of revisions. Additional revision rounds beyond three are available at an additional fee. Please come to this process with a clear vision - the more specific you are, the more quickly we are aligned.
Do I need a reference photo?
No. A reference photo is helpful, but never required. What I do need is either your spec list or a clear description of your car - year, model, color, special details, modifications - and a sense of the scene or feeling you want the painting to capture. I've built compositions from nothing more than a conversation. If you do have reference photos, bring them. If you don't, bring your words.
What sizes are available and how is pricing determined?
Starting pricing is based on canvas size and covers a single vehicle with a straightforward background. Final pricing reflects complexity - number of vehicles, architectural elements, intricate backgrounds, and scene scope. A full pricing breakdown is available on the Commissions page. All prices are listed in USD.
How does the deposit and payment structure work?
A 50% deposit is due upon signing your contract. This deposit secures your placement on the waitlist and is non-refundable - it represents the reservation of a limited slot in a very limited practice. The remaining 50% is due upon completion, before your painting ships. Payment terms are outlined in full in your contract. Please review the refund policy linked in the footer before signing.
Do you paint cars other than Porsches?
Yes - though Porsche is my specialty and the marque I know most intimately. I've painted Lamborghinis, Mercedes, Paganis, and others. What matters more than the badges is the story. If your car has one, I'm interested. That said, if your project is a Porsche, you're coming to exactly the right place.
How does shipping work?
Every completed commission is professionally packages and shipped fully insured. I ship worldwide. A certificate of authenticity accompanies every piece. For clients outside of the US - shipping costs are calculated based on canvas size and destination and are the responsibility of the collector. The painting will arrive exactly as it left my studio - if it doesn't, the insurance exists for that reason.
What kind of client do you work best with?
The collectors I do my best work for share a few things in common. They trust the process. They understand the art - real art, made by a real person with a real life - doesn't operate on a production schedule. They're excited about what's being created rather than anxious about when it will arrive. They treat the collaboration with the same seriousness I bring to it. If that sounds like you, I'd love to hear about your car.
If you've read this far, you already understand something that most people don't - that the best commissions come from patience, trust, and a shared belief that the painting is worth doing right.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. When you're ready, I am.
